Where tax and investment strategies align.

Investment decisions and tax decisions are usually made by different people who never speak. Stonewell handles them together, so the portfolio, the plan, and the return are working toward the same thing.

What We Do

Planning built around your situation

Three areas of work that overlap more than they look like they should. A conversion is a retirement decision, a tax decision, and a trade — and it goes wrong when those are answered by three people who aren't talking.

Wealth Management

Ongoing management of your investment accounts, with the tax consequences weighed before a trade rather than discovered on next year's return.

Retirement Planning

When you can stop working, what the money supports, and which account to draw from first — through to what's left for the people after you.

Tax Planning

Coordination with the person who files your return, during the year while decisions can still be made. Stonewell does not prepare returns or provide tax advice.

How It Works

A straightforward process

  1. Introductory Call

A conversation about what you're working through and whether this is a fit. Nothing to prepare, and no cost.

  2. Discovery

We look at what you actually have — accounts, employer plans, a recent return, existing coverage — and what you want the money to do.

  3. Your Plan

What we'd recommend and why, including the tax consequences of each piece. You get the reasoning, not just the conclusion.

  4. Ongoing Review

We meet as things change, and revisit the decisions that have deadlines while there's still time to act on them.

Why Independent

More alignment, fewer restrictions

Alignment. One person sees the whole picture. Investment decisions, retirement timing, and the tax consequences of both sit with the same advisor rather than being split across firms that never compare notes — and the person who prepares your return is part of the conversation during the year, not after it. That is what lets the pieces be built to fit together instead of merely coexisting.

Fewer restrictions. An independent firm isn't working from a single company's approved list, so a portfolio can be assembled around what suits your circumstances rather than around what happens to be on the menu. Client assets are held at Charles Schwab as custodian — a separate firm holds the money, so we advise on it without ever taking possession of it.
